Audience and Institutions Essay

Assess the importance of marketing in the media area you have studied. [50]

Marketing is the analysis and management of exchange relationships. It is the process of identifying, anticipating and satisfying customers’ need\]s. Due to the fact that marketing is used to attract customers, it is one of the primary components of business management and retail. Marketers can direct product to other business or directly to consumers. Marketing is key to a good movie. To even realize it is coming out a movie has to be advertised for future audiences. There has to be a good plan for how to sell the film. The better the marketing strategy, the more likely the film would get viewers. A film's publicity is a major element in deciding whether or not the project should be selling well. Whether viewers do not care about the film or do not like the way it's being marketed, the earnings of the film will be severely harmed. How well a film does depends almost entirely on how much it is being promoted.
To Commence, marketing is very important due to the reason that it contributes with establishing a relationship between the audience and the film. This can be seen in the movie of Black Panther. Now the way they did this was through many different strategies. The trailer of Black Panther, was released during the NBA Finals game, which was a brilliant tactic as it was a game which had millions of viewers watching, afterwards Kendrick Lamar, a worldwide known music artist, preformed his song “All The Stars” ft. SZA at the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, which in fact is one of the main songs in the movie’s soundtrack. Merchandise soon after became a part of the film's marketing campaign, with online retailers emerging around several websites including Disney, Marvel, Amazon, and more. By selling clothes and many other film items, more enthusiasm and interest in the film was generated among that of the audience. Another movie that did many similar things like this was, Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse. Now the reason for why they were so similar was because much like the popular song from Kendrick, Post Malone had released and debuted his song, “Sunflower” ft. Swae lee, which became an instant hit across the music platform, and the cover album carried the spiderman logo which helped promote the movie in a great way and different connections were made with the movie and the audience.
Furthermore, Marketing is vital for the film due to the fact that it helps increase the overall money made from the film. The goal in marketing is to try to get people to buy movie tickets, as film marketing is practically using the media to get people attracted to a film enough that they want to use their money to go and watch the movie. The true test of a marketing strategy is how well the film does on opening weekend, so if a movie does not do so good its opening weekend, then it is most likely the fault of the marketing team, as they did not create an effective marketing strategy to attract viewers and bring in profit. A movie which did a bad job with this was “Ugly Dolls” There strategy compromised of very minimal things to reach the consumer market. They collaborated with Cold Stone Creamery and made two new flavors, and as well a trailer, but the marketing could have been much better , as other movies such as “ Beauty and the Beast” which released a poster of a rose inside of a glass jar, in which it gave fans and viewers an uproar as they began to look forward to the releasing of the movie. As well they began to make merchandise for the people of all ages, such as costumes for the kids and as well figurines. With all this great marketing Beauty and the Beast was able to gross $504 million in the United States and Canada, and as well $759.5 million in other countries, thus showing how successful this movie truly was. From this you can see the importance of how marketing can be so beneficial to make money
To Conclude, marketing is important because without it, it is likely that no film would ever be a profitably success; a film cannot be successful if no one knows about it. The risk of spending money on marketing is overshadowed by all the money that the marketing of the film can bring in. A film needs to be marketed for people to become interested and want to go watch it. It is a way for them to learn what the film is about in a manner that makes them want to see the film to see more about it. Or just appreciate it. If a film is not properly marketed, the profits will suffer. The marketing strategy needs to ensure it can get the attention and feedback it needs to get people interested in the film. If the marketing campaign does not accomplish this, then there is a high chance that many people who could have possibly enjoyed the film will not see it. Due to all of this it is clearly evident that marketing holds a great importance in the aspect of film

The film excerpt "24" opens in an intense investigation where a woman had committed a crime by engineering a bomb to go off. The interrogator is a guy, who brings into question the action to solve the dilemma and to deprogram the bomb. The interrogator uses much of his control during the whole interrogation as an attempt to extract information from the woman. It prompted me to conclude that the purpose of the director for this scene was to show that as time is cut short, and tensions rise. This subsequently leads to desperate times, in which people will do all they can to conquer challenges and be triumphant over evil.
To Commence, the scene starts off with a fade into the face of the women. Subsequently a close up is done to get the expressions of the women’s face, as she is about to be interrogated by the man, who just walked into the room. The expressions show how serious the situation is, but at the same time once can see how the women is looking around, almost as if she is trying to come up with an idea on how to escape the intense situation, which she seems to be in.
Soon after, the man walks into the interrogation room, and with the use of eye-line match the seriousness of the situation is heightened, as it continues to grasp the facial expressions of both individuals, moreover the use of the “Over the Shoulder” shot is a very good use of camera angles, as it creates the tension that there is between the two individuals, without them even speaking to each other yet.
After the man is in the room, both individuals stay quiet, and the only thing that can be heard is the background music, which intensifies the situation. After the long period of silence from both, the women finally begins to talk, thus the dialogue of the two characters begins. Right as the women began to talk to the camera focused on her and was a close up on her so that again, the audience could capture all her expressions. The women kept a very serious face, and at the same time she spoke slowly and clearly. She never showed a change in voice, showing that she was not going to budge or say anything about the situation occurring.
Furthermore, as the man continues to demand that the women tell him where the bomb is located, the use of a high and low angle is used in a very powerful way. Now the reason as to why it is used so well, is due to the reason that when capturing the low angle looking up at the man. This in fact symbolizes superiority. This possibly meaning that the man is in a current state of higher power as he is interrogating her. This in its way is vice versa when using a high angle because the man is looking at the women who is beneath her.
In the end the use of lighting played a huge role in the whole aspect of things following, the setting of the whole scene. The reason for this is that an interrogation room is not a happy or good place to be. Due to this it is vital to create a mood or tone in the scene the elaborates on this. That is why the use of low/dark lighting is so important. Low/dark lighting creates eerie and suspenseful moods in scenes, and when used correctly it can intensify situations, just like the author did in this scene. He used the lighting to make the interrogation room a scary place to be in.

Creative Crtical Reflection

Today is April 15, 2020. I currently work on submmiting all the work I have done throughout the year. I recently just finished filming my interview on my movie and I can indeed say that I felt as if weights had come off my shoulder. This project although very fun, was at the same time pretty stressful. I think that possibly it would have been easier to do if this pandemic hadn't occured, but it is what it is. We can not change the past... we can only do whats occuring in the present, and hope for a good outcome in the future. I wanna thank my partners throughout this whole experience for being so helpful. My teachers for giving me all the assiatance they could give within the limits, and myself for showing that if I put my mind to something, I can accomplish great things. Throughout my Creative Critcal Reflection (CCR) I present a interview approach to how I answer my questions. The questions which I answer in my presentation are: How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? How did your production skills develop throughout this project? and lastly, How did you integrate technologies- Software, Hardware, and Online – in this project? The interview was a pretty quick process and it went pretty smoothly. I feel as though I did a pretty good job and I was prepared for the quetions I had to answer. The interview had to be at about  10 min long so I had to emphasize on the questions in more depth than I normally would have.

Short Story - Recap

Today is April 8, 2020, I now look back at the process and challenging work which was the short story project. I had to work with my two partners: Luca and Ryan. I selected them because even though I normally worked great with my two other partners. I wanted to see how I would do with new partners and what I could learn from them. The project first began with extensive research. We had to first study all the different genres and select from the ones we researched, which one would be the genre of our movie. After we had selected drama to be the genre of our movie. We began brainstorming ideas as to what they storyline could be about. The process took a few days as we continued to throw out ideas and builded up on each persons thoughts and suggestions. In the end of the brainstorming process we began the storyboard process. The storyboard process was pretty interesting as I would mess up the drawings a few times, but I would in the end get it right and it was probabably my best storyboard yet.

During the Middle portion of the Movie production, we began filiming the scenes. First we selected a specific date in which we would work on and then executed to work on that day. I was picked up by Ryan and we then got Luca from his house. After that we wentto the cementary to fil to first portion of the film, after we then had to go to the park and film the final portion. This in all took us a bit of time as we had to keep reshooting to get it right. Then after we finished the filming, I went home and the editing process began. This whole movie was a great experience for me and I had a great time working on it. The group worked great together and I did not regret the last minute switch in groups. We ran into some troubles throughout the project but nothing that we couldn't handle. I look forward to seeing how we are graded for our assignment, and hope that the people who watch the movie enjoy it as much as I did.

The only sad part about this whole situation, is that with Covid-19 (known as Corona Virus). Everything is coming to a big halt. With all the hardwork I did this year, to be put in these tough times, it only gives stress in completing this project and being able to communicate with my team. We however will continue to try to the best of our ability to accomplish the goal which is producing a great movie. I am positive that the hard work we have done throughout will show in our complete work. Everyday we contiunue to hear new information on what is occuring around the world, and one big thing which we have all been ancious to hear, is what will be cambridge's decision on everything that is occuring. I hope that they decide to allow us to sumbit and they will grade our assignments. If not I will of course understand. It will just ulitmately be sad news. However, for now I will only worry about what I can do. I will shortly begin filming my CCR and I hope it comes out really good.

Music Video - Recap

In the 2nd quarter, we were assigned our second project of the year. This project was a Music Video. The music video had its requirements and it was key to follow them precisely to maximize our grade. Before we even started to shoot we came up with out groups and I choose to work with my friends, Luca, Xavier, and Mario. We discussed and brainstormed ideas which we had for the video and in the end we had came to a compromise saying that we would use the song Rocketeer and then the storyline would follow of an individual reminiscing on his childhood days and the great memories he had in his teenager days. After we had selected the storyline and song we had to work on more detailed work. So we took out the storyboard and drew up the whole video from beginning till the end. After that we had to talk about how we were gonna plan meeting up after and we all had set the schedule. Throughout the whole process I learned many tricks and skills which I knew I was going  to need to use for my final project.
The whole experience of shooting this Music video was a lot of fun. My group and I got to meet up work on it and at the same time hang out and do other stuff. We didn’t stress over the work to much because we planned out a good time ahead and knew exactly what we needed to do. Honestly if we didn’t have good planning skills the whole project would have been a big pain in the back. We managed to work around everyones busy schedule and in the end we were pretty impressed with our work. I was always happy with the group I selected because we always worked good together and had good chemistry.

Commerical Blog-Recap

Back when I first started AICE Media, we were given a project focusing on making a commercial for a compny. I remember I was nervous as i wanted ti make a good video for my first time doing it, and I knew I could achieve it with all the things I learned from my teachers. This video also was very interesting to me because I had always thought of making a cool soccer video but never really knew how. So right when i got assigned this project I went home and watched countless of soccer commercial which caught my attention and I highlighted what I wanted to see in my commercial. Some of these key features which I added was the music in the back ground to create an urgency for the base drop, which falls perfectly when the individual shoots it into the net. After that, due to my experience in soccer for my whole life. I know that the sound of commentary when the commentators are ecstatic and excited. It give goosebumps to the individual listening. It brings about this feeling of wanting to play. So with that being said I added the commentary when Coutinho a Brazilian super star scores a 25 yard free kick right in the top right post.

This project was done by the help of my two great friends Mario and Xavi. We worked non-stop around the clock using every vital second to make our video stand out. I took part as the lead director,  with Xavi assisting with all the props needed, and Mario was our actor. When we went outside to the field we encountered our first problem. other people were already using the area which we were planning to use. After this I talked to them and we agreed on splitting the hour and 30 minutes in half. We used the other half to get shots we needed before the shooting scene and then after the other group finished we started the shooting scene. The shooting scene took a bit of time because we had to get the perfect shot of it. After I thought to myself how will I end it off... and thats when it struck me. I used my skills that I had acquired from photography and saw that I could make a reflecting scene with the water and the ball. So I did just that and It came out so awesome. Afterwards, I had to edit it all together and I used iMovie. Honestly, this project was probably my favorite one because of how it came out so much better than I could have ever hoped for. It was my first big step in the right direction and I continued to get better as the year went on.

Re-editing Blog

Today is  March 20th, 2020. As of today we continue to hear more news on the Corona Virus Pandemic, and continue to await the news on what will be occurring with school and when we will get back. This pandemic is something I could have never expected to occur and it has made this project much harder than it needed to be. When putting it into a global perspective though.  our tiny film compared to that of huge movie making companies is so small that we can’t begin to imagine all the difficulties that they are having to face. me and my group have been working very diligently to complete this project, and I would hate for someone like this virus to ruin all of our hard work. We have pretty much completed our film and are ready to submit it with all the work we have done. Communication has been a big problem I have had to face with my group as I haven’t been having much luck with the technology at home or my phone. I was luckily able to borrow my dad’s work computer to work on the last bits of editing and communicate with my group. Truly I hope that this virus is gone very soon as I need time to as well prepare for the second portion of this cambridge exam. If online schooling begins I believe it will not work as great as it would be in person. and furthermore it will leave us all at a disadvantage compared to that of other people in previous years who did not have these obstacles which we face currently. This will be a gruesome next months but I believe we will come out stronger and succeed.

Re-editing Blog

As the coronavirus continues to spread in the United States of America our project is getting harder and harder to complete. On the 13th of march we got the official announcement that all schools in our county were going to be closed until further notice. I thought that the state of Florida was going to quarantine us starting from Monday, and force us to stay home. So my first instinct was to quickly texted my friends that are part of my group, and asked if we could meet up and talk about what we were going to do in order to complete our project. Ryan picked up Luca on Saturday morning and we all went to my house to talk about it. I think that our meeting went pretty well due to the fact that we decided what we were going to do and we each got tasks that we will get done over the quarantine time. After we were done with the meeting, we started rewatching the film to see if we needed to fix anything and honestly after the first time we watched it we all thought that the video was good and ready to be submitted. My group asked me to ask my parents to watch it, so I did. After they watched the video they made us realize that there were a lot of things that weren’t good with the whole film. The titles were not coming up at the right time and also believed that the editing was kind of sloppy. We all agreed that we were going to fix it by the end of the weekend because we all wanted to be done with the project. Honestly this whole Pandemic is causing a lot of stress as Me and my group stress on passing our exam. I hope everything goes okay and this can all be passed by sooner than later.

Re-editing Blog: Fixing titles

Last Sunday, my group and I met up to reshoot some scenes that our peer review group told us we should reshoot. Yesterday, I edited the new parts into the film and erased the parts that were kind of choppy. Luca worked on editing the new parts into the film and he was having trouble, because he was not very familiar with the iMovie app. He also had some trouble erasing the old portions of the film because he would make the mistake to delete more than he was supposed to. One instance of this was when he had to take out a clip that was four seconds long but he didn't know why his computer kept taking out a three extra seconds. In the end of it he asked me for help because he knew I was very good with these kind of things so I helped him out as much as i possibly could. Once Luca was done adding the new clips, I helped him to fix some of the titles that we had. Fixing titles was pretty easy because we just had to fix what was mistyped. I had to fix Luca’s name because when my group member  Ryan wrote it. They misspelled it on accident. I also had to adjust the positioning of some of the titles due to the fact that in some of them, they where positioned on the actors covering their face. Which my group and I thought that if I left it like that it wouldn't look very acceptable. This group has been excellent to work with and I am so proud of each and every single one of them for working so diligently on this whole project. If it wasn’t for a team effort we would have never produced this movie.

Reshooting Blog

Recently, our whole class commenced the peer review assignment in class. My group and I decided that we needed to reshoot some scenes, so that the movie could flow smoother. The group that reviewed our original video told us the parts of the film that we should retake so that our video could come out the best it possibly can. Therefore, from the feedback my group decided that we should go out and film some of the scenes that the peer review group suggested. We all decided that the best day to film was Sunday because much like always we were all on a tight schedule. Friday and Saturday there was too much wind so it would have made the filming process a lot more complicated and also the dialogues would have been covered up by the wind. On Sunday Ryan picked me up first and then we drove to Luca’s and we then went to film the scenes at the park. Unfortunately a problem which we encountered while working was that it started raining very hard so we had to wait for the rain to stop and to kill time we went catch a quick snack. After the rain finally died down, we came back from the restaurant and quickly started working again because we didn't have much time before it got too dark outside. The peer review assignment worked greatly in our favor and we benefited  made our filming a lot easier because they told us the things we were missing in our video and also the things we did wrong so once we knew what we had to fix it was very easy to fix it. I think that now our video looks very good and its running smoothly. It is now ready to be submitted. Throughout this whole process I have had a blast and have enjoyed the whole aspect of filming a vast amount. I look forward to what is come and I’m glad I had such a good group to work with.

Peer Review Blog

I really enjoyed watching this movie. It was a horror based movie and the beginning introduced the genre very well. It was very suspenseful. Most of the scenes were scary and interesting. My favorite part of the movie was when the girl called 911. She called 911 and directly after the man came into her room it ended. This scene was very suspenseful and scary. The group worked very well, considering they only had two people. One thing I would critique about the film is the whole storyline. The story is hard to follow at some points. For example, there is a scene where she unites herself. The next scene was her untying herself again. If she wanted to show that she was captured again and tied again, then she should show this happening. The other thing she could do is just deletr that 2nd tied scene. Along with that there are some title problems that are easy to fix. For example, at the end of the movie they had some titles missing. They had all the labels but some had no names assigned to them. Some of the cuts and scenes were a little choppy, so making it run smoother would be very great in improving the movie. The movie was still very good and well put together. I think this group was very successful in creating their horror movie. I think the group will take the critiques into consideration. They will probably go back and fix the titles and some of the cuts. Overall the film was very good, and can’t wait to see the actual full and final result.

Filming Blog: Starting to Film the memory scene

Recently, my group and I began the filming process for our movie. After school we decided to take get some quick good and went to eat at iHop, and got free pancakes since it was the “National Pancakes Day”. We however did not just eat and mess around, we in fact talked a lot about the plan for the day for example what we were going to be recording from and all the props we needed to in order to make our film more realistic and more professional, such as our previous powerpoint had entailed. After eating at iHop, Ryan drove us all to the park which was pretty close to the iHop. The weather was perfect, as it was a very nice sunny day which helped us have good quality lighting in our film. As soon as we got to the park we took and establishing shot that will probably be the first scene of the flashback. We however had some trouble when we started acting due to the fact that at first we could not stop laughing and messing around. I being the director of the film had to try and take charge of my group as they goofed off a good amount.

Furthermore, we finally started to take our work more seriously, and after we had some fun and we recorded most of it. We made a little campfire where we toasted the marshmallows and recorded the scene that we all hang out around the fire and talk, this was done to truly give a sense of camping. We had to retake this scene a couple of times because the fire kept turning off. Luca took care of it and took some branches and poured some more rubbing alcohol that we had just bought. After we were done recording this scene we started recording the kidnapping scene and it came out just as we had planned for it to look. We just needed to record it a few times to make sure that everything and everyone was good and there were no mistakes. An example of this would be, in the first kidnapping shot we took, everything seemed good, but when we rewatched it you could hear some of us talking in the background. We finished basically most of it, we were just missing a scene, but we ran out of time because it got late and too dark outside. This subsequently made the shots look bad so we just decided to call it a day, we will go back to finish it on Friday and we'll make sure to wear the same clothes and have the same things as last time. We had something we had to change from our original plan that we wrote down in the story board and that was the amount of people we had brought to help us record and to be part of our Movie. We originally thought we were going to have a large group coming, but only six ended up coming which actually was better because it was easier to keep under control and it was also easier to stay focused.

Filming Blog: Setbacks With Filming

As time comes closer and closer to the due date, we seem to be facing adversity as we struggle to find time to film. This weekend it was decided by our group that we were going to film, and I really thought we were. This however was not the case. In the end wee didn't even have the opportunity to meet up at all. Our original plan was to film on Saturday morning and Sunday night. We had everything ready to film, This including: Permission from the cemetery to film there Saturday morning, Ryan's mom's car, and the outfits which we were going to wear. Unfortunately, we ended up not meeting up because of the heavy rain all day and as well the fact that Ryan's mom would not let her drive under the dangerous weather. Saturday morning we all came together and discussed about the situation and tried to come up with a simple solution. On solution we had was to film later throughout the day as it began to stop raining, but we couldn't because the weather just did not change until it was already to late. We had to cancel the plans for Saturday which was very upsetting, and had to tell the other people we asked to come to be a part of our film, to stay home due to the fact that we were not going to be filming anymore. We still had the plan to work on Sunday to shoot the next scene in the film.

Sunday we were supposed to meet around 7-8 p.m. and film the other scene of the movie, where Luca (one of the main leads in the film) gets kidnapped while everyone is camping. This time we had to face some new problems that prevented us from filming again. I was called up by my team to play a game at 6:00, and this interfered with the time schedule for filming. I told my group I would come later but they needed me for basically the whole thing. Another problem which we had to face was, that some of the outside people coming to help us and to be a part of our movie ditched us last minute. We started looking for replacements to help us out with the movie but everyone seemed so caught up in there own personal situations. We only found one person that was available to come and stay for the whole thing. We sadly again came to a  group decision that we weren't going to film on Sunday anymore because it was very difficult making a plan that actually worked and we also started to get annoyed by the fact that some people cancelled last minute. We all came to a pact that since we didn't film two weekends in a row, we will film during this week and meet up during the weekend to edit everything. Hopefully we still get the results we are aiming for.

Filming Blog: Starting The Filming Process

Our group has not started the filming process yet. There are many reasons we have not started this process, although we need to. Every member in our group has a busy schedule. Luca and I both play soccer and have games almost every weekend. Ryan has volleyball three times a week along with tournaments every weekend so this as well makes it difficult to have time to work. We do intend on filming this week. This weekend no one has games besides me. However, I have managed to fit filming into my schedule for this weekend. We are going to film on Sunday of this weekend and meet at Ryan’s house. After everyone gets to my house we will drive to Michaels to get supplies and props for our filming process. We will be getting things like sticks for the camp fire and a bag for when Luca gets kidnapped in the movie. Then, afterwards we will go to Publix to get things for s’mores. Then we will drive to rio vista, which is our location for filming. When we arrive there we will start to get things out of the car. Then we will set up all of our props, which we do not have many, for the graveyard sene. When we finish the filming for the funeral, we will move on to the camp site. On the camp site we have many props, so we will set those up. We need to make sure it doesn’t get to late so we can see the film correctly. If it’s not to dark we will hopefully finish the process of filming. This gives us a lot of time to fix it, and to edit.

Planning Blog- Storyboard

In the last two classes our group has been working on story boarding. Story boarding is one of the most fun things in the filming process. We all worked together and got our ideas down and drew them as good as we could. While we were story boarding, we thought about all the camera angles we were going to use, like for example we will use an aerial shot using my drone. Story boarding helped our group to organize the ideas we had in our minds and improve them while we were drawing them down. This will help us a lot when we will be filming because it will keep us on the right track as we will just be following the things we drew on the story board papers. Lastly I think that working on this part all together made us come together as a group and build more chemistry in between us, which is very important because it will help to keep a professional and a cooperative mood in the group.

Planning Blog- Title Design

Today is Monday, February 10, 2020, a lot of work went into this power point, because of its importance. This helped us really devote the movie, because it made us think about what the titles will look like. The titles have to give the audience a certain connotation. There are many things to think of while trying to design your titles. One large thing in our film, for the opening sequence is we do not want to make the titles distracting for the auicence. If there is something crucial going on in the scene, and the text is large and bright, and moving, then the audience will be distracted. This is why the opening sequence will look modern, yet sill visible. On the other-hand, the title of the movie will be eye catching. We want this part of this film to be important and to help the viewers understand what they are going watch. This way they will be intrigued with, bright, mysterious colors, and big, dramatic fonts.

Planning Blog- Location, Participants, Health, Schedule

Today is Monday, February 10, 2020, and we have been working on all the components which will be of great importance following the filming of our two-minute movie production. Now the importance of these specific components such as location, participants, health, and schedule is that it helps in giving the filming team an idea of what will be occurring, and who will be involved. As well will map out everything which is done, so that we know what to do and not to do, so that it stays in check with the rules of the health and safety conduct. This will ensure a smooth and simple process. Without this planning many ideas would be scattered and uninformed, causing confusion between the group, which is not needed as it is key to keep the chemistry well within a group. In brief, our schedule seems to be very manageable and easy to go with as we discussed times that all of us would be free, as we are very busy with extracurricular activities such as soccer and volleyball. With no doubt I believe we will be concluding with a very unique and creative video which will be shown as we digently work with the schedule we have produced.

Planning Blog: Sound Script

Today is February 6, 2020, and my partners and I have been working diligently on the sound script for our movie. Sound plays a key role when it comes to a drama genre movie. Me and my partner made sure to have in this movie as many different types of sounds as possible because a movie like ours that involves drama needs to have good sound effects and sounds in general like music for example. Depending on what type of sound you choose and in what scene they come can change a viewers entire perspective in a movie. This movie will have both Diegetic Sounds, Non-Diegetic sounds, dialogues and as well background music to accompany the ambiance of the setting. Our group will be very careful when selecting sounds and music because most of the time they will get copyrighted and this will cause altercations. I realized that writing a sound script is really fun and easy. It allows you to create ideas and implement them in your movie. I have also learned that you can not write a sound script before you write your shooting script as you need to know whats going to happen before you know what sound to add. Me and my partners will be coming together tomorrow and email some music companies to ask their permission for the use of their  sounds and music. Hopefully we will be getting a good response and be able to add the songs we want in the background of our 2 minute film.

Planning Blog: Shooting Script

Our group I believe came together for this blog. We all had an important role to play while creating it. We also all helped each other by facetiming one another for help. This task is very important to the filming process. The reason this is is important is it basalt maps out everything we will do while filming. It one, makes it easier for the actors in the film to know where to go and also what props to being. It benefits the director as well, because he then knows exactly when types of camera angles to do, as well as camera movements. Also the director knows at what time he needs to shoot certin senes. This makes everything for the group easier, so the filming process can go as smooth as possible. We will be sure to reference this powerpoint while in the stage of filming.

Title Research: Sabrina

This website is very helpful for researching movie titles for our specific genre. The reason I am looking at this website is to advance my knowledge on movie titles. I am looking specifically for my genre and what it looks like. Also how real people in the industry make the titles. The title design is usually linked with the genre. I learned many things from this website because it had so many things to look at. For example, something I learned from this website is how certain genres have certain movie titles to match the connotation of that genre. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, is a horror movie that has a very interesting title. This specific title caught my eye because ive seen the movie. Also the fount is very fitting for this film because it is creepy. Also the color of the fount is good because its yellow, which you don't see often so it is special. It is also creepy because it has a black figure and a bear tree with falling leaves. This highly advanced my knowledge on the subject of title design. Even though it was not my genre, analyzing any movie can help you. I now know that your title has to fit the connotation of your genre, and it needs to be eye catching and interesting.

Title Research: Gone With the Wind

The film at hand, gone with the wind, starts off with the company who produced it. It is on some sort of plaque and it says a Selznick International Picture. There are forty titles displayed in the opening sequence. In the opening sequence the movie introduces the actors, producers, and directors to the audience. One title that was displayed was the production designer. The production designer is William Cameron. Also a large part of the opening sequence was the actors. For example, George O'hara plays Thomas Mitchell. There is steady aspect of the opening sequence that stays in the majority of the sequence. In the background of the titles that are being introduced there is a countryside. This countryside includes morses, a white house, and a grass field. The connotations of the images is that it is establishing the setting. The audience from the start is being introduced to the setting and where the majority or all of the film will take place.  The genre is reenfored from the outset by the sound. There is one soul sound throughout the whole title sequence. This sound is very dramatic, it sounds like an orchestra playing. The music creates a dramatic and emotional effect right from the beginning of the film. The way the film creates and enigma from the outset may be from the soothingness of the music and scenery. This film is a drama, and is very exciting, suspenseful, and scary at times. The smoothness of the beginning of the film may confuse readers to think the film will not be as exciting. The strategies that are used to target their audience is by the amount of suspense and scary parts of the film. This targets an older audience because this dramatic film is known to not be for kids. The way that the technology is being used correctly is from the editing standpoint. For example, this is a very old fim, yet is has nice transitions for the words. One way the words transition is byt moving up the screen.

Title Research: SE7VEN

How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences of the film?

During the opening scene it was viewed that there was over 100 titles displayed, and 117 to be exact.

What Images are prioritized in the opening sequences?

The images that seem to be prioritized are that of the ones that hold a meaning to the story, such as the drawing a a child figure, then the hands which seem to be taken as if it was a criminal.

What Connotations do the images carry?

This image carries a powerful connotation as it makes sure that the viewer be anxious to know what is happening and the images are very dramatic.

How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?

The genre is reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset as it can be seen through the texts and how they are placed in the sequence.

How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?

The fil establishes an enigma from the outset by first creating suspense and drama in the movie with the quick pace of tempo and the quick transition in each title displayed in the opening sequence. This is very key in drama movies, due to the fact that without it it would give less attention and un-dramatize everything.

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

The strategies which are used to ensure the film appeals to its target is the music which is sounding in the background, as it creates suspense in the viewer. Furthermore, the use of the fast pace sequence it thus creates the dramatic essence of the whole entire movie.

How has technology been used effectively?

Technology was used very effectively in the whole aspect of the opening scene. The reason as to why it was so effective was that many editing techniques were used in the process of creating this opening sequence. The use of different transitions gave smooth and powerful impacts to the overall gist of it.

Title Research: Island Of Dogs

The first thing the viewer sees when the movie starts is a disclaimer that all characters speak in their native language. It also says that it is translated by an interpreted and has captions. Another thing that is in the first part of the movie is a lot of Chinese writing. There are 27 titles in the opening sequence of the film. It included many things such as the director and the producers. The producers include Fox Searchlight Pictures and Indian Paintbrush. They also included actors and who they are playing. For example, Edward Norton as Rex, and  Bob Bablaban as King. There was only one part of the opening sequence. The whole part where big men playing the drums. These men are also playing other instruments. They are also in a dark room with one light above them, there are only three of them. They are also in asian attire, which establishes where they are, so does the lettering one the sides of the opening section. The connotations of these opening slides is very dramatic. It also establishes the setting. The way that the genre is reinforced through technical coodes is the music. The music is the main way this film is expressed as a drama. I find its introduction music to be very dramatic with large bangs of the drums. Another way the film expresses its a genre is the lighting in the opening sequence. The lighting that is in the opening sequence is a spotlight on the drum players, the spotlight is dramatic. The way that the film establishes and enigma from the beginning because of all of the Chinese language. The strategies used to target an audience  is the translation of words that is embedded into the film. This means that the audience may mostly be English speakers. Another audience is also targeted in this film. It may be Chinese speakers, because that is the language used.  One way that technology is used is because this film is stop motion, which takes a lot of time and a very advanced new camera. One type of camera angles that is used in the opening sequence is an aerial shot. This is when they are above all the drummers.

Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

As we get closer and closer to filming, we have to continue to research to get a better understanding of the "Drama" Genre. One of the important aspects of drama is the way in which they incorporate there opening sequence. This is why its critical for us to research because it will help us in brainstorming our opening research as we will have visual examples of what it should resemble. Furthermore, it is vital to make our research credible with sources. So we used "Art of Titles" and another website called "watch the Titles". These two websites were very easy to manage and it made researching a "stroll in the park" compared to what it would've most likely been if we had to search up drama movies, then figure out on what platform to watch it, and find at what time the sequence begins. They were so easy due to the fact that you would select a genre and it would give a variety of different types of movies categorized in the genre of "Drama". Throughout our research we will be keeping an eye and taking notes on the fonts which are used, the size of the text, and as well the placement of the titles. After we research we will discuss as a group what we will want to incorporate and not have in our short movie. This will be done collectively and efficiently as we have a great chemistry and are good in finding ways in which everyone in the group will be in agreement with our plan.
