Editing blog

Today is December, 5th and we have now completed the film. I’m very happy my group and I were able to do it efficiently. We now move onto the editing process. As I have stated on previous blogs there a few points of interest in our video. One of our focuses being that we would all be different memories. There is a jump cut from when our main character grabs the book and the opening of the book. This will then play into the oversight of the memories. We will have him skim through the pictures, which is a POV shot. Then he finds one and zooms into it. This moves into the vital transition. This transition being when we finally are able to go into that of the memory

Furthermore, this is the zoom-fade. This is where the camera and the editing software with have to work in perfect unison. We will have the camera zoom into one of the pictures, this will be a picture at the beach. Then along with the zoom we will have sort of a minor light-out so that it appears that a picture is being taken. This is probably the hardest part of our entire video. As if this is messed up, then it will kill the flow of the video. Flow is one of our main objectives of all of our entire video. We are attempting to make this a professional as possible. This can be seen in our commercial, the result looked very professional. There are also a few other transitions that will need to be  perfect.

Most of these transition will be similar to that of the first. They will contain a zoom in and a minor light-out. There are also; however, some similar yet different edits. This will be the zoom outs of these picture. This will be important as one picture will have to transition to another in the video. After the storyline is complete then the transition will come in. We will have the zoom out, but the picture will start off with the minor light out. Next, we will slowly reduce the light out as the camera zooms out. The final edit with have a jump cut to a wide angle of the husband sitting next to his now wife. Then finishing our editing for the video.

Filming Blog

On December 1st my group and I began filming our final scenes. We focused on getting as much work done as we could, due to the fact that we knew that we didn’t want to procrastinate till the last moment. For the reason that we had other extracurricular activities which we had to already time manage, for instance soccer or wrestling. On Sunday we were able to get more of the moments which we will be incorporating in the “memories” book which will play a big role in our music video. We got memories of us at the park, the beach, and the car. These memories will then be viewed as my father, will be reminiscing on his past, which we will be making the memory which he never forgets from his childhood. This will be a complicated scene to accomplish however I’m confident my team/group will be able to make it all work out nice and clean. With the right editing I think we can make the photo turn into the memory as we have pictured in our storyboard.

However, this is not the only thing we still need to complete. We will be tomorrow capturing the most important scene which is what we will be doing during the memory. This will be taking up much of our night as we need to take scenes at the different areas. We have adjusted our location for the memory to be during the “lining of the tree” in Las Olas, due to the fact that it helps in the idea of making it a night which will always be remembered. To adjust our plans we had a group discussion between all of us and agreed on the idea of doing this. During these scenes we will be capturing, I will have had to use a drone to capture the shot of us driving off in the night with our friends, then afterwards all the rest of the scenes will be used with my phone. I believe that if everything goes right and as planned tomorrow we will have had all the scenes in our movie completed, and we will then just have to merge the clips and edit to have our final overall music video.

If by any chance we do run into any slight inconveniences then we will proceed to deal with them accordingly, and we will adjust our schedule to make sure we complete the video on time. If we can not shoot during the “lining of the tree” we will go ahead and revert to our old plan of the beach. Also we will not be able to use fireworks for the reason that when we went to buy them we were informed that a legal adult of 21 years or older had to be with the minor. Subsequently causing us to be back tracked and leading us to decide that to save the trouble we would just go without it. Even though we do not have the fireworks we will be using the sparklers and any other props we see fit along the way.  I am glad I have been able to work alongside my peers on this project due to the great energy and effort we have put into it. I believe this is a great group and our final results will be nothing but our absolute best.

Filming Blog

This past week my group and I decided that we should film our video so we can get it out of the way and have time to work on the editing process which much time was going to be needed. My friend texted in our Media group chat around 10pm on Saturday that we should film on the following day around 4pm. We all agreed except one member of our group. He had left town for the weekend due to other extracurricular activities. We kept in touch with him the whole time while we were taking pictures and recording some videos. We thought it was crucial to keep him involved as we are a group and we all need to be on the same page. Although every picture looked very good due to our group member camera quality and my skills acquired from that of Photography class, we had to pick the best ones from that day. Luckily we all agreed on which ones to pick and we didn’t have any arguments over a picture or video.

Unfortunately, one of the problems which we had to face was that none of us had a car or were allowed to drive, so we decided to invite two of our close friends to help us with the process. They drove us to the different locations where we then took pictures. They were also part of our project as we involved them in the pictures when we were playing soccer at the park, and when we were at the beach. We all met up at the park at 4pm on Sunday, and we quickly started the process as some of us had to be home. The first thing we did was play soccer and football at the park while one of the group members was taking pictures of us. This part was very fun as we just played around for a while even though we were actually working on our project. After this, our friend drove us to the beach where two of our group members decided to jump off the peer. Before they jumped we all made sure that the area was safe and that the water was deep enough. When we were about to leave we decided to record some of our video and take some pictures at a restaurant on the beach. We ordered a snack so that we could stay inside and we asked the manager if it was fine if we filmed and took pictures inside.

After we finished eating we were all sitting down in the plaza talking about our project and all the props we need to buy, and when the next day we were going to film was and especially where. We decided that we were going to film on Wednesday, November 27th, at one of our group member’s house as he lives close to the beach and that’s where we originally wanted to record most of our music video. For our props we decided to buy fireworks and candles that we will use when it’ll get darker, but of course we asked and made sure that one of our parents was available to supervise us while we use this material since we are not familiar with it and it could be dangerous. I believe that my group and I are doing a fantastic job with the music video because we are already getting ahead and doing most of the work now so that we can finish before the deadline, because if any inconvenience would happen we would have time to fix the issue. I have had a great time working with our group and our newest member. Filming also our music video I think is very fun as we get our work done but we also enjoy and have fun doing it. Hopefully nothing goes wrong with our music video and we can finish our filming process as soon as possible with the fact that it comes out much like the storyboard design is.

Storyboard Blog

At the beginning of our storyboard it starts off with a adult man on the beach with a book of memories. This will be the establishing shot and it will also be a wide angle. Then, on the next box there is a shot of the book, held by the adult. On this book there is a picture of him and his friends. This is an insert of the book, with the pictures in the book, including pictures at a basketball court or a restaurant. This next step is very crucial to our editing process, as this will probably be the hardest part of the music video. We will lock onto on of the pictures, which will be the friends locking arms. We will then zoom into the picture and zoom out into the actual beach. This will be hard because the smooth transition will be crucial for the flow of the video. We are thinking of doing a fade transition and a color transition.

The next box is a tracking shot from behind the car that we are driving in. This is the first shot of our general flash back scene. We then proceed to meet up with the girls at the beach and begin the main part of our video. We then begin to walk the beach together in the night, this could be adjusted for filming purposes. Then we begin the real fun, the pyrotechnics. The very next square is where we have the pairs playing with sparklers on the beach. This will paint a beautiful picture as the contrast from the sparks and the nights will created that tone. After we have a few visuals of the sparklers, we will have some sort of fireworks like some Roman candles. This will be accompanied by the dancing of the friends. This will be perfect for the music as it is more of an upbeat and party song.

Next, we move into the third phase of the video, which is the relative ending. The first box of this phase is where we will have one of the friends separate form the rest and sit. They will just be watching the moonlight in the calm of the night. We will then fade to the friends coming together to take a picture. This will be a picture that we started of with in the book. It will zoom out and the picture with be in the book. Next we will cut to a wide angle of the adult version of the subject sitting at a table in the beach. He is then approached by the adult version of his date, they are now married and living happily. Then, we will fade to an image of the couple sitting on the beach watching the sunset. Finally, we will have a drone shot of the sunset from high in the sky. Thus concluding our music video.

Planning Blog

In our music video we will have many different locations. Our music video will be based on past memories of a person, so we will have to film in a variety of places. We will first start filming at the person’s house which will be My house since I live close to the beach. After we do our filming there, we will be going downstairs to the pool and film there too. After we film in the pool we will go to the beach and do most of our filming their since we have a really big space. When filming in the pool we have to make sure that we are safe before everything. We will make sure we don’t do risky jumps and running around the pool to make sure we are safe. We have to be even more careful when we film at the beach. We will make sure we ask permission to the lifeguard since we want to film a shot there. Our group will make sure we are safe and not doing anything that could harm or interfere with someones routine.

In our music video we will be using many different types of props. At the beach we will use sparkles to shoot one of our scenes. We will use a soccer ball as well since everyone in our group loves to play soccer. Our group is also taking shots in a car. When we film the shots in the house our idea is to show the person that is watching what we like to do with our friends, so we will be using a PS4 to represent that because we are always playing video games together. When we film at the pool we will be using a beach ball and a volleyball. At the beach we will also use soccer goals to recreate a game. We will try our best to make the memories as realistic as we can.

Since we are doing many different memories in our music video we will use many different costumes. When we film at the beach we will mainly be using swim shorts and some of us will be using shirts. Some of us might even be wearing something beach related costumes like a necklace or sandals. When we film at the pool we will be wearing almost the same outfits but with some small differences on the details of the clothes. When we film indoors at the house we will just dress up using normal comfortable clothes that we usually wear at school. If we film at the park we will be dressing up using soccer clothes because our idea is to play a game there too. This project will be really fun and I’m really excited to start filming since we will be filming outside school. We have almost everything planned out and we will try to start filming as soon as possible.

Codes and Conventions

Today being November 14, 2019, we have begun the music video project which will be a 1 minute and 5 seconds to 1 minute and 15 seconds video. My group and I have chosen to focus and work with the song “Rocketeer” by Far East Movement. We are truly excited to film this music video due to that fact that we had a great time shooting our commercial and learned many new and interesting techniques which we would love to incorporate in our new project. In this new project I want to keep on improving my craft and attempt to try new camera angles and as well learn the pinnacle studios application much better to take our video to the next level. Our song is in the pop-rap category of music and has a fast and uplifting beat to it. Due to this, we will ensure our video shows the uplifting beat and does not portray anything else. I believe I have chosen a great group to work with and I am expecting no less then the best of each and every single one of them. We have great chemistry so working on this project should be easy and Non-problematic.

Furthermore, going in depth on the song “Rocketeer” it is basically this song about a boy who is in his relationship with his girlfriend, which in another perspective could be considered his crush, and he practically feels as he could do anything when he’s with/around her. One of these things being flying. As the song continues he keeps on telling her how much she means to him and he wants to continue feeling the way he does for her.

1. In our music video we will be on the beach, so we would be wearing bathing suits. There will be other times, however, were we will be on a basketball court for a picture, in which we will be wearing  clothes for basketball. There will also be a picture that we will be in a restaurant and laughing, so we will be wearing regular attire, maybe jeans and a t-shirt.
 2. In most of the pictures in the book, it will be daytime. This is except for the picture that we will zoom into, which will be set at night. We might use a flash for some shots though.
3. In our music video we will have an adult hat is later in life, maybe a father, that will grab the book an open it. Then the pictures will be of us at the beach or in a restaurant. Once it zooms into the main picture, we will have a few teenagers acting naturally. We will be at the beach playing volleyball or playing with sparklers.
4. We will not be using make-up in our video, as we want to put out a natural and relaxed mood. There might be somebody wearing make-up, but it would be coincidental.
5.  Throughout the video we will be using a hefty amount of props. This could include the sparklers that we are using at the beach. It would also include the book of pictures that will be used at the beginning of the video. There also might be some other props like a basketball at the court, or some food at the restaurant.
6. The video will start off inside of a house, in a room, where the subject will grab the book. Then we will have different settings in all the pictures in the book, like a park or a basketball court. The main setting; however, will be at the beach.

Editing Blog

Today my group and I were finally able to commence the editing process on our commercial. The school in response to the technological errors, gave us laptops with the software on them. Due to the fact that our teacher explained to us that there was a shortage in laptops for the class. Our group got there bright and early. The teachers had created a system in which the class was divided in half and the first half of people got 45 min to work on editing, and thus after the other group would receive the final 45 min remaining. This putting us on a tough time frame to complete and edit all our work. We were fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the first groups to edit. However, we filmed the commercial on my phone. So in reality all we had to do was download it onto a Flash-drive. During this whole process we really only had problems on the desktops with downloading the video files. We were very fortunate that it downloaded flawlessly, however my guess is that due to apple using a different platform then that of the laptops it did not have the same applications leading the computer to have a troubling time trying to upload it.

Furthermore, when we got on to the laptop it was very bothersome how long it took to turn on. This subsequently Gave us less time, and the worst part was time was of the essence. After some minutes of waiting it finally started up and my group and I opened pinnacle studio. The only problem was pinnacle studios was an application that went extremely slow as it had so much information. So we decided to work on iMovie. We edited and found music for the film and I even got this app called “video blender” which allowed me to do double exposure on the ending of the commercial. Throughout the using of iMovie we allowed pinnacle studio to open up and tried to use it. We saw that it functioned like a normal editing software but it was a difficult application to use with so little time. We were able to upload a few of our clips and mess around with them, but then  pinnacle studios crashed and thus wasting a grand portion of our time.

Due to everything which occurred with pinnacle studios we ultimately decided to leave the laptop and only use iMovie on my phone , the only thing was that we first had to choose a song which fitted our video. The requirements we had for this song was that it had to have an upbeat song to pump up the audience. We went through a few songs we were familiar with, and when we found a very good song that was brought by me after watching videos of sports compilations. It was the perfect. The song had a good tempo at the beginning and then quickly drop the beat right as he is scoring  and continues as he controls the ball. Moreover,  another big part of our commercial was a small sound byte that we would use when the shooter “Mario” scored. We discussed the use of a clip of the commentary during Sergio Aguero’s title winning goal, however in the long run we decided to use a player much closer to one of our partners, Philippe Coutinho. The reason we ultimately used Coutinho is due to the fact that as our partner has been growing up he has idolized to strive to become like the star player which is Coutinho. We used a clip of the reporting done when he scored a free kick for Liverpool. Our finalized commercial ended up looking great as the music was perfectly timed with our subject’s steps, the beat dropped right when we wanted it to, and the clip of the commentator was parallel to when they scored the free kick thus giving the watcher goosebumps as they feel as though they were in that stadium watching the game.

Editing Blog

Today is October 28, 2019 and Mario, Xavier, and I are beginning to work on our editing process for our film. Once we started we took out our flash drive with all of our information and videos on it, and plugged it into the computer. Afterwards we transferred the the video clips onto the computer and waited for the computer to download the whole information. We then tried to watch the videos from the computer, however, were surprised to find out that the computer didn’t work and as well did not have pinnacle Studios so we couldn’t even use it to edit. After this occurred we went on another computer and followed the same process as the first time, and no result. This was a very troublesome process and we ended up getting no where on the editing. Furthermore, we were informed on the fact that if there are any computer problems then we will be given more time to do the editing another time, which was a great relief, but at the same time it didn’t make me truly happy cause I realized that this whole hour an a half that we had in class was going to be wasted and put to no good use.

Moreover, I was honestly really bothered and upset at the whole situation, due to the fact that my group and I were eager to begin the editing process. I honestly feel like we wasted a good amount of time because we ended up not doing anything in the project. I believe that we need new equipment and new computers because the ones we are using are not allowing us to do anything and keep on giving us problems which is very bothersome.  Pinnacle Studio being an all-around, easy-to-use yet very powerful app which allows us to use our creativity, requires fast computers. The reasoning behind this is that the software features a built in user interface designed for very complex forms of editing, and the interface allows quick access to all the tools with unprecedented power and precision. If we do not receive new computers i believe these problems will continue to occur and will give us more and more problems along the road.

Lastly, In the end to at least do something to get ahead. We began to work on our film using iMovie which is another editing app for film-making. I had to do this from the phone which was very time consuming as a phone is not meant to be used for film work and editing films. We were able to upload everything and place everything into the correct sequence and add some transitions, but honestly today has been a very unproductive day and its been due largely to the inadequate equipment and technology having to be used. We hope that next class this problem will be fixed and can then begin to further work on our commercial. If not then I don’t know what we will do. But honestly that is the next classes problem and all I know is that I can’t be blamed or be in trouble for not finishing when the computer I'm using doesn’t work.

Filming Blog

Today which was October 24, 2019 we finally filmed our Nike Soccer commercial. We started off first getting all the equipment ready and got all the costumes and outfits that were going to be needed. We then walked down to the soccer field and began to film. Throughout the filming process I feel like we all as a team worked very well together. We were open to new ideas to make the video stand out, and made sure that every single person had a specific role in the process, wether it was filming, acting, or tweaking and critiquing on any aspect that can be adjusted/fixed.

In the Nike commercial I was the one filming throughout the entire video. When choosing to record I decided to use my phone instead of the video camera, and I truly feel as i made the correct decision. Throughout the entire filming process I was able to catch some very unique angles and incorporate angles which I learned from AICE Photography. Subsequently giving the commercial an attraction to individual when they first see the commercial, and get them “hooked” by it.

Lastly, After we began doing our final touch ups in the filming perspective, we went back to the classroom and began to upload all our videos into the computer. The process was a bit troublesome as the uploading of videos from phone to a computer can be tricky, however, once we got the hang of it it made it worth while as instead of uploading it to google docs a direct upload kept the quality at 4K which was exactly what we wanted.

Storyboard

For our commercial storyboard, we will include shots such as a wide shot where our subject is looking at the goal before practice. We will also use a close up on the Nike cleats and the soccer ball. Along with the close up we will include an extreme close up on the subject’s eye, nose and mouth. There will be an over the shoulder shot when the subject is walking from his car towards the field. In that same scene we will also be using a tracking shot as we are filming the subject walk to a different location.

Along with shots we will also be using different camera movements. One of these movements will be a tilt when we film the ball going to the goal. We will also use a pan when our subject is placing the ball on the ground to take his free kick. Another camera movement will be a zoom, this will be used when we zoom the into the ball and the cleats.

Editing will play a big part in our commercial. Our main edit/transition will be a jump cut. Some examples will be when our subject walking to the field we will cut to when he is putting on his cleats already in the field. A very important part in our film will be a graphic match, this will be used when we do a close up of the ball, it will cut from day to night, and practice to game. Our last shot will be an insert, it will be at the very end when the subject scores, this will cut into a Nike symbol.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today is October 14, 2019, in today’s Media Studies class we had a detailed lesson on the whole process of using the video camera and the editing aspect of it. At the beginning of class we focused on learning how to use the tripod and connecting it with the camera. In learning this it was explained and noted that if any group wants to use their own phone to film. It is suggested that a phone adaptor to the tripod is to be purchased and used. Knowing this is greatly beneficial to our group as we will be filming with our phones instead of the cameras.

Furthermore, we were shown the whole process and procedure of checking out and checking back in the camera. We were instructed to fill in the “agreement” form and were proposed the idea of filling out numerous sheets at a single time, so that when the time comes we are already prepared and can swiftly go through the process at a fraction of the time. The “agreement” sheet is practically a paper that indicates the individual will be using the video camera and allows the person to know that they are liable to whatever happens to the camera as long as they use it.

Afterwards, we began to focus more on the editing, and were introduced to the app “Pinnacle Studios” this app is used to edit the footage which we will be taking. It is a pretty interesting app as it has many options on editing, but at the same time its pretty straightforward to use, as long as you paid attention. The app allows you to add music to your  footage, add transitions, and words to the video. Overall, we received a good lesson on the whole aspect of the procedure we will take to use the cameras and how we will be editing the footage we get.

Planning Blog for Nike Commercial

On October 7, 2019,  our commercial project was assigned. In this commercial Mario, Xavier, and I have decided to work together. In our group discussion we have chosen to go with the idea to be a Nike based commercial, and will focus on the soccer aspect of the company. Our idea is to have an individual come out of the car with their “Nike” bag. Then as the individual walks towards the field the camera view switches to a over the shoulder shot. After this shot has been captured we will then transition to the player putting on his “Nike” cleats and we capture a close up of the cleats being tied up. Next the individual is shooting the ball and constant clips of him shooting on the keeper is captured. Lastly a slow motion video is captured as the individual rockets a shot into the top corner. Thus ending the scene with the nike logo and the phrase “it starts from the beginning” quote.

Today, October 10th, we will be working on the planning of our commercial. This will contain the parameters of our, props, costumes, locations, and our back-up plan. Then, about four days later, on October 14, we will be storyboarding our commercial. This will really set in stone our plan for the final product. Finally, the day will come, eight days later we will be filming at the field; however, we will be on a tight schedule as we have about 90 minutes to film put whole project. We will  in have to have all our props ready.

In this project we will need a car, nike cleats, a nike bag, a nike soccer ball, goalkeeper gloves, and the use of the Fort Lauderdale High School soccer field and the parking lot. With all this equipment and being allowed to use the field it will greatly help to make this commercial a great success. Furthermore, the individuals in the film will be wearing Nike apparel, as it is vital to show the Nike symbol at all time.

If by any chance there is no possibility of using the field or parking lot. We have come up with the idea that the High school’s men locker room will be the best choice to go with as we can still make a great commercial as we take the aspect of preparing before the game even starts.

Codes & Conventions

In our project we will be taking the approach of a Nike commercial. Due to the fact that Nike commercials are focused on the aspect of sports it is completely essential that the ad contains anything athletic. This could be sports equipment, sports clothe, or athletes. If the video does not consist of any of this then it will have a drastic impact on the message of advertisement due to the fact that when people see Nike they see a powerful and striking image.

Furthermore, in a Nike commercial it always makes sure to portray the Nike “swoosh” symbol. The reason for this is that the symbol has become renowned world-wide. If the Nike symbol were to not be shown it would possibly make the commercial seem much weaker due to the reason that it doesn’t carry so much weight as it would if it actually did have the symbol present in the advertisement.

All around the world Nike is known as the best brand for soccer products, such as cleats, balls, gloves, shin guards and etc. In our commercial we are trying to show how dominant Nike is on the soccer market. We will show how it’s slogan, “Just Do It” apply to their products.

Introductory

Hello, my name is Camilo, and to get to know who I am, we have to go all the way back to the beginning. I was born on December 18, 2002, from two Colombian parents, however surprisingly was born in Houston, Texas. Many people get surprised to hear this, and always assume I was born in Colombia, but that didn't end up being the case. I do however speak the language as I grew up listening to my parents talk Spanish my whole life.

I come from a very humble and hard working family, and these morals have been instilled in me. I have always worked towards chasing my dream of being a professional soccer player, and I intend to do just that, as my father and grand father did before me. Soccer was brought into my life at a very young age; the first time I went to go kick around the ball with my dad I fell in love with the game. The thing I love about soccer so much is that it brings so much passion to people, and unites people to celebrate special moments together.

Now I am 16 years old and close to reaching 17. I attend Fort Lauderdale High School and I'm currently a Junior. I'm not going to lie I kinda believe Junior year has been the hardest year, however possibly one of my favorite years at the same time. I'm currently taking 5 AICE classes including Media, which is the best class because of the teachers, but I have to say I have never been so swamped with work, and with extracurricular activities it's a hassle managing everything, however I still figure out a way. To end this little introduction of who I am. I am just a kid who's trying to be someone in the world, as I proudly carry my family's Legacy.
